winter puppies

strolling on the winter beach
prickly burls on my heel
seek for a warm home
recall the stray puppy
last Christmas eve

Even the scarecrow…
harbors some star qualities:
silent grace, prince of witness,
discourages the thieves stealing
the gold nuggets,
life line of the strivers.
Shaken in indignation, tries to
find a merit in the caged ability;
if you cannot change it, love it.
What happened to the weeping
young man in downpour?
At the end of season, doubts
unanswered, quests half-fulfiled,
with the seeds of possibility,
dreams on.

like wind, like youth

wayward wind
indulges in
spirits of autumn leaves
like smart youth
befriends a wise old man

no life’s insignificant

even a little berry
shines in the moment
of significance
when caught
in an ordinary lens

Frost within

Morning sun points to
the lingering image of
the night perched on
the snowy branch,
coxing, change,
change. The ancient
boulder shuts her eyes.
Not every change is
worthwhile; change for
the change’s sake entertains
devil. I’d go for a walk,
watch the wind swallow
the intrusive one,
let the golden beam
lifts the frost within.

pride

plain corn stock
in the field
of beautiful flowers
stands tall
proud sweet corn

November Lake (Gogyohka sequence)

Beneath the calm silver
brooding sentiments
of the passing season
soon to be freeze
for spring revival
Pondering clouds
atop of the mountain
awaits to be freed
as the morning stars
risen from the lake
Call of a loon
or a hidden bird
chides the insipid
November lake
longs for December

Virtue of the outcasts

ugly pumpkin
bird-pecked apples
more delicious
than the fancy ones
sweet outcasts of autumn
