Mediocre Poet

Your words may be dry as an old man’s danders
But they resonate like water drops in a deep cavern,
For they are expressed with passion
Unlike a hypocrite’s words in flash fashion

Your mediocre words are ripples
On a calm lake, for they speak truly
Superior than greedy, dishonest tongue
Of a hoity-poity critic who calls you idiot

Don’t shrink in embarrassment by the
Self-inviting reviewer’s mordacious tongue
Write more ordinary poems
Till the vocabulary blooms

(Note:  Poems and blooms don’t rhyme.  I’d call it false-rhyme because they sound somewhat similar. 🙂  )

Thoughts on Critiques and Tense

About book critiques:  I would not trust critiques written on book covers.  There are several types of critiques:  self-opnionated ones; dishonest ones; sweet ones; trustworthy ones; plain laughable ones.  So, I usually ignore them, and just dive into reading the book.

Which one is better, books written in present tense or past tense?  Of course, regardless a book’s quality, it really depends on writers’ choice for his or her book.  If a writer thinks that present tense is a better fit for his or her book, it should be written in present tense, or vice versa.

Usually I like books written in past tense.  Books written in present tense, however, give you a sense of immediateness of the story, which is why some writers choose the method for her or his book.  When I want present tense for my book I would only use it for the first paragraph or first chapter, and then switch to the past tense for the rest of the story.

Rain (my favorite childhood poem)

I will go
To the pond
To draw circles
I will go
To the pond  –Author’s name forgotten

As I grew older the rain became my alter ego. And the pond, the world I live in.
Regretfully, I drew circles that had no ripples.  That’s okay.  Who says I have to?  After all, the roads I’ve taken for the destination are important too.

While trying and failing and trying again, I learned lessons and matured and still growing, calmly accepting reality.  A wise man once said that we live in our desire rather than in our success.

My painting

Once I was an artist, specializing portrait. This is one of the still life paintings i did on the side. Technically it’s not excellent but I like it. In this piece I tried to capture the concept of a stream of life; when old one perishes new one emerges.
Actual painting is better than the photo. When my novel ideas dry out(?) I like to go back to painting, just for pleasure.

Mind Reader

Do you believe that mind readers are real? I believe so. We all are to some degree. You might call it extra sensory perception. But there are people who can read your thoughts nearly 100 percent. They know your past and present life, what you are plotting for your next book, and so on.

Some individuals abuse their mind-reading abilities. If you don’t like what they do, they harass you or even slander you. Obnoxious behavior, indeed. If you suspect that you might be a victim of such outrageous people, you might be right. Don’t be angry. Anger is not only a poison to your mind but also it makes you susceptible. Calmly sympathize with the person for having such low self-esteem.

I wonder what will happen to our society if everyone learns how to read people’s mind and abuse what they learned. I am healthy, mentally and physically. If you don’t believe this post, just ignore it. Thanks.

Sibling’s Love

Sibling one:  “If your child and I were drowning in a lake and you could save only one at a time, who would you save first?  Your child or me?”

Sibling two:  “My child.  Because it’s not only a matter of love, but also it is my duty to make sure of my child’s wellbeing.”

Sibling one:  “Sigh…!  I understand.”

Sibling two:  In case you and I were drowning and a rescuer could save only one at a time, I would let the person save YOU first.”

(By the way, happy new year, every one!  What do you think about the above post?)
